Findhorn

A lovely little town on the Moray Firth which sits upon a beautifully calm lagoon right at the mouth of the river and the firth. Its great on a hot day as the lagoon offers a really great place for kids to play safely and there is a nice sheltered beach. On the other side of the spit there is a super beach although it tends to be windier and rougher. There is good crabbing to be done from the pier too. The town has 2 pubs that serve excellent seafood – well worth a visit for lunch or dinner. The drive across to Findhorn past Lochindorb and through Ferness is reason to visit alone. Head towards Grantown and turn left at Duthill and follow your nose from there. Parking in the yacht club is pay and display.

Dolphin Cruises

These can be done from Inverness or Cromarty and are done on large ribs in the Moray Firth. The cruises tend to last about 2 hours and you are given lots of weatherproof equipment so you stay warm and dry. The chance of seeing Dolphins is pretty good and you also get the chance to get up close to some dormant oil rigs. Well worth it.

Hopeman

Just along the coast from Findhorn is Hopeman. The beaches here are amazing and on a good day you certainly don’t feel like you are in the north of Scotland. It has a great Ice Cream shop too. The beach is easy to access with plenty of parking on site.

Inverness

Inverness offers some good restaurants and a wide variety of shops. For people with young children there is also a good playpark with a ride on train.
