Walks and Cycles from the House

Carrbridge and Docharn circuit (Walkhighlands)

House to Carrbridge Village

For a longer walk down to the village, come out the gate and head left, not crossing the road and once you reach the forestry gate at the top of the hill there is a wide track alongside the road. (there is a secret gate in the fence offering short cut, if you can find it the padlock combination is 333). Cross the road at the lay-by at the top of the hill. On the other side locate the path/track that leads into the wood and follow until you come to a steep downhill.   Descend to the road, walk left along the road, branch right through a field gate down to the River Dulnain, where you can either follow on down the path along the river into Carrbridge by the garage, or you can cross the Gurkha bridge and come down into Carrbridge by road.  The pub is a welcome resting place! The track in the woods is not suitable for bikes.

Up the back of the house

Opposite the sign to the house at the top of the drive, follow the grass track down past the old school ruins to the gate on the track leading to Foreign farm. Follow up the track, take the right fork passing the farm on your left and you can follow this track for quite a long way up giving marvellous views over the Cairngorms and the Monadhlliadth mountains. You can walk or cycle this track. If taking dogs please keep them on the lead.

Sluggan Bridge

Leave from the parking area at Slochd, cross over the railway bridge and continue down to historic Sluggan Bridge.   Cross the bridge and walk up to the road. Approx 4 miles. Suggest having a car at both ends. This route is great for cycling the paths are wide and great fun, there are a few steep hills but it makes a great circuit leaving from and returning to the house c10miles.

Carrbridge to Boat of Garten

This is best for cycling with a welcome stop at The Boat of Garten Hotel for a pint when you get there. Head out of the house up the hill and into the village, go past the Old Bridge on your right and locate Carr Road on your left. Head down here for a few hundred metres until you see a sign for a path to Boat of Garten. The path is cycle friendly and has a few ups and downs. Keep going until you get to the derelict farmhouse and turn right down a steep hill. You will come out and need to cross the Aviemore/Grantown road and then cycle the last mile into Boat. You can carry onto Aviemore.

Carrbridge Woods

There are a variety of easy well marked woodland walks in the village. ( short and medium length)
Start from the cemetery/ war memorial

Boat of Garten
Walk along the Kinchurdy road next to the pub, alongside the gold course. Often referred to as Millionaires row due to the houses here this is a great spot for prams and the less sure-footed as its tarmac for about a mile before it becomes a track which you can walk through to Aviemore on.

Loch Garten
A delightful short circular walk alongside the loch. Start from the parking near the Ospreys. 1.5 miles. Great for young kids as relatively flat and good paths.

Boat of Garten to Aviemore
Start from the Post Office in Boat of Garten, along Kinchurdy Road and follow the excellent trail to Aviemore. 6 miles approx

Boat of Garten to Aviemore (Walkhighlands)
